Quick Overview

Autodesk Maya is a software application used for 3D animation, 3D modeling, simulation, visual effects, rendering, matchmoving, and compositing. It is developed in Toronto by Autodesk's Media and Entertainment Division (formerly Alias). Maya main competitor used to be 3D Studio Max (renamed to 3ds max) until Autodesk bought Discreet. These two products continue to exist under Autodesk today. Maya may be more popular because it supports other platforms while 3ds max only supports Windows platform.
